    What you will need

You will need the following ingredients to make this recipe, don't be intimated by the list it actually comes together than you think with simple steps

    • Chicken breast cut into cubes: This cuts down on cooking time and allows the meat to brown evenly.  Substitute with boneless skinless chicken thighs.
    • Olive oil: Use good-quality olive oil to cook your chicken.
    • Butter: Butter contributes to the creamy richness of the Marry Me Chicken pasta sauce.
    • Onion: Sauteeing your fresh onion helps to build the savory, rich flavor of this dish.
    • Garlic: Nothing is better than the smell of fresh garlic cooking in butter.
    • Basil leaves: Sweet, fresh basil adds another layer of flavor to this mouthwatering meal.
    • Smoked paprika: substitute with regular paprika or hot paprika
    • Herbs de Provence: substitute with Italian seasoning
    • Garlic granules
    • Garlic herb seasoning: optional but I like to use my homemade garlic herb seasoning to build flavor in dishes.
    • Heavy cream: Adds an irresistible, luxurious creaminess to the dish.
    • Sun-dried tomatoes: I used sundried tomatoes packed in oil.
    • Parmesan cheese
    • Pasta: Choose a smaller pasta like rigatoni, penne, or bowtie pasta for quicker cooking.
    • Chicken broth
    • Salt and black pepper

How to make marry me chicken pasta

Cook the pasta: in a large salted boiling water add pasta and cook until al dente. Drain set aside and reserve some pasta water for later.

Cook the chicken: Add the cubed chicken to a bowl and season with (smoked) paprika, salt, black pepper, herbs de Provence, garlic, and onion granules, toss to combine.

Place a skillet on medium high heat, add olive oil and 1 tablesppon butter and once it is hot and the butter melted, add the seasoned chicken pieces and cook for 4-5 minutes or until it is golden brown on the outside and no longer pink in the middle.

Remove the cooked chicken from the skillet to a plate

Make the marry me chicken sauce: still using the same skillet, add butter to the skillet, add chopped onions and garlic, and cook until soft, translucent, and fragrant. Add chopped sundried tomatoes, Herbs de Provence, chili flakes, and chicken broth and stir to combine. Bring to a simmer for 1-2 minutes for the flavors to meld nicely.

Stir in heavy cream, and grated parmesan cheese and stir until combined. Return the cooked chicken back into the creamy sauce and stir to combine. Reduce the heat and simmer for 2-3 minutes. Taste for salt and pepper and adjust accordingly. shred some fresh basil to the sauce and stir to combine.

Lastly, add the cooked pasta to the creamy sauce and stir until all the pasta is coated in the delicious sauce. Add some of the reserved pasta water if the sauce is too thick.

Take it off the heat and serve immediately as is or with garlic bread. Enjoy

The main ingredients in Marry Me Chicken are chicken breast (floured and panfried) heavy cream, chicken stock, sundried tomatoes, parmesan cheese, sauteed garlic and onions, basil, and dried herbs and seasoning. To make it a complete meal, add gnocchi, tortellini or pasta.

What can you substitute for sun-dried tomatoes

There are several ways that you can make Marry Me chicken without sundried tomatoes.

    • Add fresh, diced tomatoes to the dish along with the onions and garlic.
    • Add some roasted cherry tomatoes to the sauce a few minutes before it’s done cooking.
    • Add a small amount of tomato puree before adding your chicken broth and cream.
    • Use roasted red bell peppers in place of the sun-dried tomatoes.

Can I replace Herbs de Provence with Italian seasoning?

While the herbs in each mix are slightly different, you can substitute Italian seasoning for Herbs de Provence in this dish.  Here is a quick recipe for herbs de Provence from the 'the dinner bite' website.

Can I make marry me chicken with angel pasta

Yes, absolutely! Angel pasta or spaghetti works just as well in this recipe. The only difference is that angel pasta cooks faster so I recommend you cook it at the same time you cook the creamy sauce.

What other vegetable can I add to this pasta dish

Add baby spinach, cooked bacon, mushrooms, asparagus or any other veggies you fancy to your marry me pasta.
